Bill targeting franchises hurts small businesses

AB 257 is a bill before the California Assembly to give an unelected Fast Food Sector Council the power to oversee and impose standards on franchise restaurants. It would make it immeasurably more difficult for small business owners, like me, to bring opportunities and investments back to our communities.

AB 257 is a bill before the California Assembly to give an unelected Fast Food Sector Council the power to oversee and impose standards on franchise restaurants. It would make it immeasurably more difficult for small business owners, like me, to bring opportunities and investments back to our communities.

This legislation, which only applies to franchised restaurants with 30 or more locations nationwide, unfairly targeting our restaurants with wage orders and workplace rules that won’t apply to any other restaurants. As a result, it will reduce our ability to offer employee resources – like the many incredible career advancement programs offered by McDonald’s independent franchisees.
